Founded in 2001, our Photo Urbanism program offers fellowships to local photographers to create a new body of work illuminating the public spaces of NYC.

This year’s Photo Urbanism fellow, Barnabas Crosby, has been documenting how small businesses are using public spaces in new and innovative ways. His final exhibition Holding Court is a portrait series, captured in a neighborhood handball court, that calls for the “re-imagination” of Black entrepreneurship and community spaces.

Holding Court was on view at the Brooklyn Public Library, Central Branch, from May 1st to May 29th.
